Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya is studying possible measures for the Halandumon Tower, also known as the Memorial Tower, situated along Gonzaga-Gatuslao Streets, following public suggestions ranging from restoration to demolition.

According to Gasataya, some residents have proposed bringing back the clock that was originally part of the roundabout where the tower stands, while others are pushing for its removal.

However, the mayor emphasized that the structure was funded by the city government and therefore cannot be easily demolished without careful consideration.

To address the issue, Gasataya said a technical team will be formed to evaluate the tower and determine feasible plans for its improvement.

The discussion comes as the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority continues renovation works at the Bacolod City Public Plaza, sparking renewed attention to the tower’s current state.

The Halandumon Tower was constructed in 2019 with a budget of P4.8 million.

That same year, the previous administration defended the project against criticisms, insisting that the cost was not overpriced./CJ, WDJ
