Gilas Youth falls to Chinese Taipei in FIBA U16 Asia Cup opener

Gilas Pilipinas Youth fell to Chinese Taipei, 106-82, to open its FIBA U16 Asia Cup campaign on Sunday, August 31, in Mongolia.

After Prince Cariño’s basket which gave the Philippines a 2-0 lead, it was all Chinese Taipei from there, as the latter pulled away and led by as much as 27, 81-54, following Shu-Wei Lu’s triple at the 2:15 mark of the third period.

The Philippines outscored Chinese Taipei, 20-19, in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough, as Gilas was already trailing 87-62 entering the final frame.

I-Le Wang led Chinese Taipei with 24 points, while Cheng-Che Hsiao added 13.

Cariño paced the young Gilas squad with 23 points and six rebounds, while Jeremiah Antolin, Jr. chipped in 11 points.

Gilas will face Indonesia next. (GMA Integrated News)
