The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is urging residents to call the revitalized 911 hotline for immediate emergency assistance.

NOCPPO Provincial Director Police Colonel Rainerio de Chavez led a simulation exercise displaying swift coordination through the 911 system in delivering assistance to individuals in distress.

All 31 city and municipal police stations joined the activity via Zoom from the NOCPPO headquarters in Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.

During the demonstration, a 911 dispatcher received a mock emergency call from Barangay Palaka Sur, Pulupandan town, and relayed it to the nearest patrol units.

Within two minutes and 33 seconds, police units from Pulupandan and Valladolid police stations reached the location.

De Chavez attributed the quick response to the strategic deployment of patrol units in crime-prone areas, ensuring readiness to act promptly.

“Pasok ito sa three pillars [of the Philippine National Police (PNP)], where one of the pillars is swift and responsive police service,” De Chavez said, stressing that while the five-minute benchmark may not always be met, patrols will strive to maintain peace and order with the fastest response possible.

Meanwhile, Lt. Colonel Joem Malong, NOCPPO deputy provincial director for administration, said they have begun coordinating with local governments and barangays to cascade the strategy across the province.

“This is an opportunity to strengthen our collaboration, especially with our new program now, in ensuring that important information reaches our communities accurately and responsibly. Through open dialogue, we can build trust, address concerns, and work hand in hand for the safety of our people here in Negros Island,” Malong said.

Police also reminded the public of the proper steps in seeking urgent assistance: dial 911; wait for the dispatcher to answer; provide clear and accurate information; follow the instructions from the operator; stay on the line until told to hang up.

NOCPPO expressed confidence that with community cooperation and a stronger police system aligned with the PNP’s mandate, the 911 hotline will help strengthen peace and order across the province. (PIA Negros Occidental)
