The Philippines has found a rising star in rhythmic gymnastics as Sheena Jillianne Chua Ty claimed multiple medals, including the all-around championship, at the Dream Cup 2025 – Vivace 4th International Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Competing in the Under-11 Category A, Ty impressed the judges with her precision and artistry, securing first-place finishes in the freehand and rope events and earning a silver medal in the ball apparatus.

Her consistency across routines propelled her to the top overall spot in a field featuring over 600 gymnasts from 10 nations.

Ty’s performance was described as poised and confident, with clean execution that stood out in a competition widely recognized as a proving ground for young rhythmic gymnasts across Asia.

“I’m overjoyed with this result,” the 11-year-old Bacolodnon Ty said after her win.

“Every moment of training and every sacrifice was worth it. To compete against such talented athletes and come home with these results is a dream come true,” she added.

The Dream Cup, organized by Vivace Gymnastics Malaysia, has become one of the region’s most competitive youth gymnastics events.

Its fourth staging this year brought together top programs from countries including Japan, South Korea and Thailand, providing a platform for emerging talents like Ty to showcase their skills.

Ty trains under Coach Whynn Reroma and the Whynnions gymnastics program, which has helped develop several national-level athletes.

Reroma praised Ty’s focus and drive, saying her success was a result of discipline and determination beyond her years.

For Ty’s family, the win was the culmination of years of commitment to training and travel. They credited her coaches, teammates and friends for helping her stay motivated as she represented the country.

“This wouldn’t be possible without the people who believed in me,” Ty said.

“I dedicate this victory to everyone who has been part of my journey, especially my family, coaches and teammates,” she added.

The young gymnast hopes her achievements will inspire other young Filipino athletes to take up rhythmic gymnastics, a sport that continues to gain recognition in the Philippines.

With the Dream Cup title under her belt, Ty is setting her sights on future competitions in Asia and beyond, eager to build on her international debut.

“This is just the beginning,” she said.

“I’ll keep working hard to represent the Philippines with pride.”/ASC, WDJ
