The Negros Occidental Regional Football Association (NORFA), in partnership with San Carlos Negros Football Club, opened a two-day coaches’ refresher training at the LNB Hall, Park Marina in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City over the weekend.
The program gathered around 30 coaches from across Negros Occidental, along with 23 players from the NORFA Under-16 team.
The training aims to further enhance the skills and knowledge of football coaches in the province.
UEFA pro license coach Joan Segura Farre facilitated the sessions, presenting methodologies to help coaches deepen their understanding of the game, develop players individually and collectively through guided discovery, and prepare structured training sessions.
Farre also underscored the importance of setting monthly plans, using varied coaching tools, and regularly evaluating team and player progress to strengthen grassroots football in the Philippines.
Farre, likewise, discussed key areas of player improvement, such as decision-making in offense and defense, discipline in playing without the ball, adherence to FIFA rules, and effective communication on the pitch.
He also introduced didactic forms of training, techniques in structuring field sessions, and strategies for game preparation.
The participants also applied their learning from Farre’s lecture in a practical team session at the SJRI fields yesterday.
The training is part of NORFA’s continuing efforts to upgrade the quality of football coaching and player development in the region./ASC, WDJ
