The Department of Education in Western Visayas (DepEd-6) has monitored the gradual resumption of face-to-face classes in public schools, with only 450 schools still under the alternative delivery mode (ADM) of learning as of yesterday.

“We have monitored schools that have already resumed classes today. This is based on the assessment of local government units [LGUs] that it is already safe for our learners to return to in-person classes,” DepEd-6 spokesperson Hernani Escullar, Jr. said in an interview.

“For SDOs [schools division offices] with monitored suspension of in-person classes, learners were automatically shifted to ADM to ensure learning continuity. They will return to in-person classes once we receive appropriate guidance from the LCEs [local chief executives],” he added.

Based on DepEd data, 205,558 learners are still affected by the suspension of in-person classes by their respective LGUs due to inclement weather.

Still implementing the ADM are 21 schools with 3,714 learners in Antique; 63 schools in Guimaras with 21,200 learners; 300 schools with 105,625 students in Iloilo province; and 66 schools from Iloilo City with 75,010 learners.

Last week, DepEd recorded 2,370 public schools with 731,982 learners shifting to ADM due to heavy rains. (PNA)
