A police officer and a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairwoman were injured in a vehicle head-on collision early Saturday morning, July 12, along Circumferential Road near Lupit Bridge 2 in Barangay Taculing.
Police Major Elmer Bonilla, chief of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office, confirmed that the accident occurred at 2:42 a.m.
The injured were Police Master Sergeant William Alcala, assigned to the Regional Personnel and Records Management Division of the Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region; and Barangay Taculing SK chairwoman Bea Kryshia Pabular.
They were residents of Puentebella Subdivision in Barangay Taculing.
An initial police investigation indicated that Alcala, reportedly fatigued after working overtime, may have fallen asleep while driving his gray sedan.
His vehicle, traveling northbound and occupying the inner lane, veered in the opposite direction.
It collided with a sports utility vehicle driven by Pabular, who was also in the inner lane heading north.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage to their front ends, police said.
Pabular suffered a hand injury and was brought to a nearby hospital, while Alcala was also rushed to a nearby hospital, experiencing chest pain from the impact./CJ, WDJ
