The PLDT High Speed Hitters kicked off their campaign in the PVL on Tour with a 25-18, 25-21, 28-26 sweep over the Farm Fresh Foxies at the Playtime FilOil Center in San Juan City on Tuesday night, July 1.
Negrense Kiesha Bedonia led the charge with 14 points, off 10 attacks, two blocks and two service aces, to be named Player of the Game as the High Speed Hitters improved to a 1-0 record.
“Syempre, sa akin lang, nakaka-pressure, kasi ‘yung score namin is dikitan,” Bedonia said after the game.
“Pero sinet aside ko muna ‘yung pressure at pinakinggan ko lang ‘yung coaches kung saan ‘yung tina-target namin,” she added.
Despite missing the services of Savannah Davison and Dell Palomata, the High Speed Hitters showed grit and discipline, particularly in the closely contested third set to secure the victory.
“Grabe ‘yung pinaghandaan namin for this conference kasi may wala kaming mga players,” Bedonia said.
“So doble-doble ‘yung effort namin sa training, sa defense at offense,” she added.
Mika Reyes chipped in 10 markers, including a game-winning block, to wrap up the straight-set victory.
Jovielyn Prado contributed nine markers for the High Speed Hitters.
Trisha Tubu top-scored for the Foxies with 14 markers, on 12 attacks, one block and a service ace, while Rizza Cruz contributed 10 points in the loss.
Meanwhile, the Cignal HD Spikers pulled off a stunning 25-22, 25-18, 28-26 straight-set win against the Creamline Cool Smashers to stay undefeated.
Gel Cayuna stepped up with her efficient ball distribution, finishing with 22 excellent sets, to go with five markers, to be named Player of the Game as the HD Spikers seized solo first place with a 3-0 record.
Erika Santos top-scored for the HD Spikers with 18 points, coming from 14 attacks, two blocks and two service aces.
