The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts achieved a four-game sweep in the group stage of the 2025 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League Rising Stars Cup Division 1 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Tuesday, June 3.
The Thunderbolts first defeated Holy Rosary College with scores of 25-17 and 25-22, where Rhose Viane Almendralejo was named Player of the Game with 10 points, consisting of eight attacks and two aces.
The Thunderbolts further solidified their dominance in Pool B by overpowering Chiang Kai Shek College with scores of 25-16 and 25-11, with Alexa Bertolano leading the team with 10 points.
Next for Bacolod Tay Tung, which represented Western Visayas in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa, is the Far Eastern University-Diliman Lady Baby Tamaraws in the knockout quarterfinals round on Thursday, June 5.
The National University Nazareth School (NUNS) Lady Bullpups also advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating the University of Santo Tomas Junior Golden Tigresses, 25-14, 25-23, with Den Daylisan scoring nine points for NUNS.
NUNS completed a four-game sweep in Pool D by dominating the University of the Philippines-Integrated School Junior Fighting Maroons with scores of 25-18 and 25-10.
The Arellano University Lady Braves also recorded a four-game sweep in Pool C, winning against De La Salle-Zobel A, 25-15, 25-18.
The Lady Braves will next face La Salle-Lipa, which reached the quarterfinals after defeating Holy Rosary College, 25-19, 25-18.
The Emilio Aguinaldo College Junior Lady Brigadiers topped Pool A after overcoming the Naga College Foundation Lady Tigers, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, achieving a 4-0 record./ASC, WDJ
