The St. John’s Institute-Bacolod Falcons secured their first win in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League Rising Stars Cup Division 1 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Saturday, May 31.
The Ralph Savellano-mentored Falcons improved to a 1-2 win-loss slate following a 25-16, 25-22 straight-set victory over the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Fighting Maroons.
Prior to the maiden victory, the Falcons suffered defeats against the University of Santo Tomas Junior Golden Tigresses, 25-20, 27-29, 25-19, and the Far Eastern University Lady Baby Tamaraws, 25-21, 25-20.
Meanwhile, last year’s runner-up, the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, are set to commence their campaign at the resumption of the competition today.
The Thunderbolts of head coach Ian Macariola will open their campaign against Bethel Academy in the morning before battling De La Salle Lipa in the afternoon.
The Thunderbolts started their campaign later as they came to represent Western Visayas in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte./ASC, WDJ
