The Lyceum Lady Pirates stunned the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 21-25, 25-21, 29-31, 25-14, 15-12, in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City on Thursday, April 24.
Negrense Joan Doguna stood out with 27 points from 23 attacks, three service aces and one block, along with 11 excellent digs, earning her Player of the Game honors for the Lady Pirates.
Johna Dolorito also contributed significantly with 20 points, helping the Lady Pirates secure their third consecutive victory, improving their record to 4-6 and keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the Final Four.
The score was tied at 10-all in the latter part of the fifth set when Doguna and Heart Bio combined to score four consecutive points to send the Lady Pirates to match point at 14-11.
Shaila Omipon responded with an attack that brought the Lady Altas closer at 12-14, but Doguna sealed the victory with a decisive attack against the double block of Perpetual Help.
Omipon led the Lady Altas with 19 points, while Pauline Reyes added 16 points, leaving them with a 7-3 record in third place.
In the men’s division, the University of Perpetual Help Altas (6-4) defeated the Lyceum Pirates (2-8) in straight sets, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22, with Jeff Marapoc leading the Altas with 16 points./ASC, WDJ
