The Indian national involved in the tragic Good Friday procession crash in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alangilan, which claimed the lives of three individuals and injured 17 others, has posted bail amounting to P60,000, securing his temporary release from detention.

Jagpret Singh, 37 years old, was released from Police Station 5 after posting bail around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.

However, the investigation into the accident continues, police said.

Colonel Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director, confirmed that Singh’s bail was set based on the prosecutor’s recommendation.

“We conducted the inquest for the cases,” Coronica said.

However, Singh was not inquested for violation of Republic Act 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, as further documentation from the hospital regarding his alcohol test results is still required, Coronica explained.

Singh was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property following the April 18 incident.

The charges stem from the fatal crash where Singh’s vehicle rammed into a tricycle and a crowd of Catholic devotees participating in the religious procession, resulting in the deaths of lay minister Jonel Solano, barangay tanod Gilven Tanique, and student Daynah Plohinog.

Seventeen others were also injured in the incident.

Major Mark Joel Reclamado, commander of BCPO Police Station 5, said 15 complainants filed the cases against Singh.

They will wait for the schedule of the court hearing of the case, Reclamado said./JB, WDJ
