Negrense Samjosef Belangel struggled offensively as the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus bowed to the Wonju DB Promy, 80-68, in the Korean Basketball League at the Wonju Sports Complex on Tuesday night, January 14.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles guard finished with seven points on 3-of-9 field goal shooting, to go with two assists and one rebound, as the Pegasus dropped to a 16-13 win-loss slate.
“The promised defense did not work out well from the start,” Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk said after the game.
“The mood went astray because the start was not good. I hope they will act responsibly in the next game,” he said.
“Loose play is not a good thing,” he pointed out.
Filipino-American Ethan Alvano finished with 17 points, to go with seven assists, five rebounds, two steals, and one block, as the DB Promy improved to a 14-15 win-loss record.
Park In-woong also ended with 17 points to go with seven rebounds.
Chinanu Onuaku contributed 12 points, while Robert Carter and Su Seo-min ended with 11 apiece for Wonju.
“I think the advice to focus on defense was well conveyed to the players,” Wonju head coach Kim Joo-sung said after the game.
“The offense and defense play we wanted were achieved. I think that was the key to the victory,” he added.
Andrew Nicholson tallied a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Pegasus.
Kim Nak-hyeon and Jeong Hyo-woo added 15 and 13, respectively, in the defeat./ASC, WDJ
