A woman was killed while her daughter sustained injuries after they were shot by an unidentified assailant at Barangay Tan-awan in Negros Occidental’s Kabankalan City on Friday morning, November 22.

Police identified the fatality as 61-year-old Vilma Medes, while her daughter, 19-year-old Ge-ay, was injured.

The victims are residents of Purok Pangkulan in the city’s Barangay Tan-awan.

According to the initial investigation, the victims were on their way to the market in Sitio Baje around 6:00 a.m., when an unknown individual suddenly shot them and fled the scene.

Vilma sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while Ge-ay suffered injuries to her mouth and the right side of her abdomen.

Both victims were rushed to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital for treatment.

However, Vilma was declared dead on arrival.

The Kabankalan City Police Station is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting incident./WDJ
