Negrense Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus continued their strong start in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) with a 99-65 domination over the Goyang Sono Skygunners at the Daegu Gymnasium over the weekend.
The Negrense guard finished with 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals, as the Pegasus improved to a 7-1 win-loss slate for first place.
Andrew Nicholson led the way with 22 points in just 17 minutes of action, Kim Nak-hyeon added 15 markers, while Kwak Jeong-hoon and Shin Seung-min had 11 and 10, respectively, for the Pegasus.
Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk credited their strong defensive start to their lopsided victory, their seventh straight this season.
“The first half was perfect. The defense that we prepared was perfect,” Kang said in a post-game interview.
“All the players who entered the court focused, and did very well until the end,” he said.
“I didn’t know we would have a winning streak, and the players are doing well. It’s good that the sweat we shed in the offseason is coming out from the start of the season,” he added.
Lee Jae-do was the lone double-digit scorer for the Skygunners, with 22 points as they dropped to a 5-3 record.
Meanwhile, Miguel Oczon and the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus (5-3) defeated Ethan Alvano and the Wonju DB Promy (1-7), 79-70, at the Ulsan Dongcheon Gymnasium.
Oczon struggled offensively anew with three points and one assist in six minutes of play for the Phoebus, while Alvano contributed 23 points, six assists and four rebounds for the Promy. /ASC, WDJ
