The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings had answers for the TNT Tropang Giga again.
The Gin Kings held off the Tropang Giga in Game 4 in front of 16,783 fans, 106-92, on Sunday, November 3, at the Araneta Coliseum to tie the best-of-7 championship series of the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup at 2-2.
Justin Brownlee, who conceded the best import award to Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, listed a total of 34 points, collected six rebounds and four assists to lead the returning Ginebra side.
“In terms of our offense, we just kept making big shots when we needed to,” coach Tim Cone said during the postgame press conference.
“When a team starts to make a run at it, someone hits a big shot. Stephen [Holt] was the one tonight making those big shots. Maverick [Ahanmisi] hit that big four. Justin [Brownlee] had one,” Cone added.
The Ginebra maestro was referring to the fourth quarter conversions of Maverick Ahanmisi, Stephen Holt and Justin Brownlee — all under the three-minute mark.
Just when the Tropang Giga were knocking at Ginebra’s doorsteps, his soldiers were able to push back all rally attempts by Chot Reyes’ wards to keep the separation in their favor.
“We’ve been fortunate that we’ve been hitting the big shots when they count,” Cone said.
Japeth Aguilar, Ahanmisi and Holt all had 18 points each, while former MVP Scottie Thompson chipped in 12 markers for the Ginebra offense.
Hollis-Jefferson was finally outshone by Brownlee, who dropped 28 points, while Calvin Oftana’s 26 was put to waste.
The Gin Kings can now take a series lead in Game 5 on Wednesday, November 6, at the same Quezon City venue. (ABS-CBN News)
