Drug enforcement teams of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) seized over P9.6 million in shabu over the weekend amid intensified security operations for the opening of the 45th MassKara Festival.

A buy-bust on Sunday night, October 13, and another a few hours later yielded a total of P6.8 million in illegal drugs, police reports showed yesterday.

Colonel Joeresty Coronica, police city director, in an interview said these significant accomplishments, which were the results of a strengthened intelligence operation, would lead to the reduction of illegal drug supply during the festival set from October 12 to 27.

“We are able to reduce the supply of illegal drugs that are supposed to proliferate during the MassKara Festival. We expected the supply to arrive. That’s why, in the past weeks, our police operatives have been doubling their efforts to prevent these illegal drugs from reaching the streets,” he added.

Each gram of shabu costs P6,800, based on the street prevailing price, according to the BCPO.

Around 1:00 a.m. yesterday, operatives of Police Station 2 arrested two suspects, identified as alias “Elizabeth,” a resident of Barangay 27, and alias “Jupet,” of Barangay Tangub, in Purok Rose, Barangay 9.

The two suspects yielded 500 grams of shabu worth P3.4 million.

Operatives of Police Station 8 and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) also scored 500 grams of shabu during a buy-bust in Hollowblocks, Barangay Singcang-Airport around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A suspect alias “Biboy,” a resident of Barangay Villamonte, was arrested during the operation.

Early Sunday morning, CDEU operatives arrested alias “Nana” in Purok Himaya, Barangay Mansilingan after he sold P1,000 worth of the prohibited substance to an undercover policeman.

He also yielded about 55 grams of shabu valued at P374,000.

On Saturday night, October 12, 65-year-old, alias “Mariloe” was collared by CDEU personnel during a buy-bust in Sitio Sibucao, Barangay Banago.

Found in the suspect’s possession were 90 grams of shabu worth P612,000.

Charges are being readied against the suspects for violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The Regional Special Enforcement Team of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Western Visayas (PDEA-6) likewise arrested the region’s top drug suspect and his wife after they yielded P1.87 million worth of shabu in Barangay 14 in Bacolod City yesterday morning.

Through a search warrant, the PDEA agents entered the residence of alias “Jake” and alias “Rona,” both 34. They recovered 275 grams of shabu. (PNA)
