The PBA announced that it has suspended NorthPort Batang Pier player John Amores for the upcoming conference without pay “for conduct detrimental to the league.”

Atty. Ogie Narvasa read the decision to reporters during the halftime of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters-TNT Tropang Giga game.

“In coordination with the management of NorthPort, the commissioner has decided that John Amores will be suspended for all his games in the next conference of the PBA’s Season 49 without pay for conduct detrimental to the league,” the statement read.

The PBA added that Amores should address his “anger and violent tendencies” in order to get back to the league.

For this, he needs to get clearance, and the program must be approved by the PBA.

Amores was informed of the decision.

He and his brother surrendered to the police after the player was caught on CCTV firing a gun at another man after a basketball game in Lumban.

Amores and his brother were later freed after they posted bail.

CCTV footage earlier showed Amores disembarking from a motorcycle driven by his 20-year-old brother in Barangay Maytalang Uno before firing his weapon at the man.

The victim, however, was unharmed and no bystander was wounded during the shooting.

Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz, Lumban police chief, said that before the incident, Amores had joined a basketball game in Barangay Salac, where he and the victim had a heated argument over a contested call. (ABS-CBN News)
