Bacolodnon gunner Jeffrei Chan has ended his tenure with the NorthPort Batang Pier after not being given a contract renewal ahead of the PBA 49th Season beginning next month.
According to Batang Pier head coach Bonnie Tan, the squad opted not to renew the Bacolod City-native Chan, and give his roster spot to their other acquisitions during the offseason.
During the offseason, the Batang Pier acquired Jiovani Jalalon and Abu Tratter from the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots in exchange for Zavier Lucero.
The Batang Pier also got Sidney Onwubere from the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in exchange for Benedict Adamos, while they also unloaded Brent Paraiso to the Terrafirma Dyip for a future draft pick.
The 41-year-old Chan, one of the best three-point shooters in PBA, was bothered by a minor calf injury in the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup before being activated due to an injury by JM Calma.
Chan averaged 5.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists during the All-Filipino conference, and played his final game for the Batang Pier during their 104-96 loss to Terrafirma in a playoff for the eighth and last quarterfinal spots.
Chan was a second round pick (no. 17 overall) by the Barako Bulls in the 2008 draft.
He then played for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, the Phoenix Fuel Masters, the Gin Kings, and the Batang Pier./ASC, WDJ
