The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) is ready at all times to deploy security forces when needed at any given time, an official said yesterday.

Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of NOPPO, also assured that they will provide security assistance even on last-minute requests.

“What is important is that organizers of activities such as rallies and other similar assemblies will coordinate with the local government unit and the police and follow protocols,” Polinar said in an interview.

The statement came after the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) based in Cebu City announced through a social media post on Monday, May 6, the relief of Lt. Colonel Ronoel Fungo as the police chief of Dumaguete City.

Fungo had earlier raised concerns about his unit’s capability to provide security for a prayer rally scheduled for May 7 at Pantawan 2 of Rizal Boulevard in the capital, which was the reason for the city’s revocation of the event’s permit.

The rally organizers had earlier applied for a permit from the city government for the activity, which was to be attended by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The PRO-7 statement said that it has confidence in NOPPO’s capability to address the security requirements of the rally or any other activity with the help of other police units.

Fungo is now assigned to the NOPPO while under investigation, with Lt. Colonel Don Richmond Conag replacing him as officer-in-charge police chief. (PNA)
