The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has yet to decide the fate of 50 sidewalk kiosks in the city’s Barangay Alijis.adio program yesterday, a motorist complained about the sidewalk kiosks in Alijis, which are causing traffic congestion in the area.

Alijis village chief Deogracias dela Vega admitted that he allowed residents to put up their kiosks along the sidewalk.

The village has no public market, Dela Vega said.

The road was widened into four lanes, but he denied that the structures are blocking it.

Dela Vega explained that they established a satellite market, relocating kiosks in one place.

Meanwhile, Councilor Celia Flor, committee on market chair, said the village officials requested an extension to allow vendors to continue their businesses.

The decision is still pending as of this writing.

On his part, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the city government has yet to take action on the complaint, pending the city council’s decision.

“The situation for the meantime is held in abeyance,” Benitez said.

He clarified that the kiosks are temporary.

However, the City Legal Office said they never allow the establishment of structures along sidewalks.

Benitez said the city government will sit down with barangay officials, as they are considering establishing a permanent market in the village./MS, WDJ
