A police officer died in a road accident at Barangay Salvacion in Negros Occidental’s Murcia town on Monday afternoon, February 26.

Murcia police identified the fatality as 36-year-old Corporal Edward Peña, a resident of the town’s Barangay Salvacion.

Captain Rodney Sarona, Murcia police chief, said Peña was on his way home when the incident occurred along the national road in Hacienda Bernabe.

Sarona said the victim attempted to overtake a tricycle, driven by 31-year-old Rizzy Tanaleon, with four passengers on board.

However, due to an alleged unexpected maneuver by the tricycle, Peña lost control of his motorcycle.

Peña was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Police said the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

An investigation is ongoing./JB, WDJ
