Prices of rice in Negros Occidental will likely to go down this month.

In a radio interview yesterday morning, Jesus Jimenez, chairman of the Committee on Staple Food for Negros Occidental, said that the recent importation during the harvest season is one of the reasons for the drop in rice prices.

He added that the retail prices of imported rice is currently from P62 to P63, while local rice being sold in various markets across the province is priced from P52 to P55.

Jimenez said there is a possibility that imported rice may be sold at P60 per kilo, P2 lower compared to recent prices, while local rice prices could potentially decline from P45 to P50 per kilo, when supplies from other countries arrive./DGB, WDJ
