The first two days of the 16th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival and 1st Terra Madre Visayas in Bacolod City have generated almost P1 million in sales.
Dina Genzola, officer-in-charge of Negros Occidental Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, said the festivities generated a total of P962,865.50 in revenue.
Genzola urged Negrenses to support the local organic farmers, who are now being recognized as guardians of the province’s food security.
She added that by supporting the organic festival, the agri-fishery sector in the province, which comprises over 38 percent of the impoverished population, can also be assisted.
Aside from commonly-purchased products, such as rice, vegetables and fruits, Genzola said several unique products from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental are also featured in the organic festival.
The festival will run until Sunday, November 19 along Bacolod City’s North Capitol Road./DGB, WDJ
