The Bacolod City government will investigate the alleged overpriced chicken inasal (grilled chicken) being sold at one of the kiosks in this year’s MassKara Festival.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said they received a complaint that chicken inasal was sold at P180 per piece, higher than the price last year at P120 to P135 each.
Benitez expected the prices should not be that high because the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation (BYF) had reduced the rent rates for the festival kiosks.
He explained that no provisions in the price ceiling were included in the kiosk contract.
“By next year, we have to incorporate the price ceiling into the contract,” Benitez said.
“We have no authority for now and we have to look into it. What they are doing is a free enterprise,” he added.
Von Maungca, BYF’s team leader for promotions, marketing, and sponsorships, said their supervisors have been assigned to monitor every festival site.
Maungca said they will appeal to the tenants to sell their products at an affordable price./MS, WDJ
