The quality of electric vehicle (e-jeep), which will be used as a means of public transportation in Bacolod City, will be evaluated by the local transport group Sentrong Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Negros (SSTONE).

SSTONE secretary general Junjun Asis said they need to test the e-jeep unit so that the group can decide if they will avail one in case their provisional authority expires in December of this year.

They will check the unit first if it is suitable to be used as a public transportation as it is different from the modernized jeep, they added.

The group said they had already seen a sample unit at the Bacolod City Government Center on Tuesday, May 16.

The first e-jeep unit from Jiangsu Fengchuen New Energy Power Technology Co. arrived in the city earlier this week.

They are willing to avail the unit as their alternative for the government’s jeepney modernization program.

Earlier, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the e-jeep unit, which will cost around P2 million, was sent to the city if it is acceptable as an alternative for transport operators.

The e-jeep can accommodate around 22 passengers./WDJ
