Negrense Belangel, Daegu snap skid in KBL

Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus got back on the winning track in the 2022-2023 Korean Basketball League (KBL) after a 72-67 beating of Jeonju KCC Egis at the Jeonju Indoor Gymnasium on Tuesday night, January 24.

The Bacolod City-native Belangel, a former member of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, tallied five points, on 2-of-5 field goal shooting, to go with three rebounds and two assists as the Pegasus improved to a 13-19 slate.

Daesung Lee top-scored for the Pegasus with 23 points, including three outside hits. Daeheon Lee and Murphy Holloway had 15 and 10, respectively, while former San Miguel Beermen import Devon Scott managed five points and four rebounds.

Jung Chan-yeong finished with 21 points, including five three-pointers, Heo Ung added 13 markers, while former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe hauled 14 rebounds to go with nine points for Egis.

Meanwhile, Filipino-Canadian Calvin Epistola was not fielded in the contest by the Egis despite scoring 10 points during their loss to Changwon LG Sakers last Sunday, January 22. Jeonju dropped to 16-18.

On the other hand, Rhon Jay Abarrientos and the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus scored an 82-75 victory over Justin Gutang and the LG Sakers at the Ulsan Dongchun Gymnasium.

Abarrientos, a former Far Eastern University Tamaraws standout, finished with six points, all from free throws, to go with four assists, three steals and two rebounds as the Phoebus increased its win-loss slate to 20-14.

Gutang was held scoreless for the second straight game and only managed three turnovers in almost five minutes of playing time as the LG Sakers dropped to 20-13.

Gaige Prim led the way for the winning Phoebus with double-double 24 points and 10 rebounds, Myungjin Seo added 14 markers, including three triples, while Jihun Ham ended with 11 points.

Former NBA center Dante Cunningham top-scored for the LG Sakers with 16 points, Jaedo Lee added 15 markers, while Assem Marei, Jung Hee-jae and Kwanhee Lee contributed 13, 12 and 10, respectively./ASC, WDJ
