The four barangays in Negros Occidental’s E.B. Magalona town, that were ravaged and temporarily isolated by Super Typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013, are now reconnected once again following the reconstruction of the P50 million Nanca-Cudangdang Bridge, resulting to the revitalization of the town’s economic opportunities, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways in Western Visayas (DPWH-6).
The reconstructed bridge now reconnects the barangays of Nanca, Cudangdang, Tanza, and Tabigue.
Nerie Bueno, DPWH-6 Director, said the reconstruction of the bridge is vital in the transport of products from local communities to the market, and providing linkage among communities.
“The reconstruction of this bridge provides direct access among sugarcane-hauling trucks to the sugar mill in the neighboring Victorias City, hence, improving the economy and livelihood of the people in local communities,” Bueno said.
She added the new bridge will likewise provide a safer and quicker way of crossing the Malogo River for the approximately 11,000 residents, instead of using a small barge as a means of crossing, which poses danger during typhoons.
“Bridge is a vital transportation and economic infrastructure towards economic growth and transport linkage,” she said.
“With the reconstruction of Nanca-Cudangdang Bridge, the once disturbed economic activities in the local communities in E.B. Magalona will be revitalized, which would hopefully open new economic opportunities for the whole town,” she added./DGB, WDJ
