Two cane trucks suffered extensive damage after they were allegedly set on fire by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Negros Occidental’s Toboso town on Wednesday, December 14.
Based on information released by the Toboso police station, the trucks were owned by a certain Teotimo Ballesteros, Jr.
The trucks suffered damage pegged at around P600,000.
The drivers of the two trucks were noted to have witnessed the arson.
Police were immediately able to deduce that the arson attack was perpetrated by the NPA, after they recovered an NPA leaflet accusing the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion of human rights violations.
An initial investigation found that failure to pay revolutionary taxes was the motive behind the attack.
Police are still investigating the incident./DGB, WDJ
