A senior high school student’s remains were found floating in a river at Barangay Cabahug in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City over the weekend.

The body of April Bacato, 16 years old, a resident of Purok Sisoy also in the said village, was discovered floating on the Panikion River in the village’s Sitio Morente on Saturday morning, December 10.

Based on statements given by her classmates, the victim went missing shortly after being released from school on Friday, December 9.

An initial post-mortem examination revealed that she sustained 11 stab wounds all over her body.

It is still unconfirmed if the victim was raped, and the police are still requesting an additional autopsy.

Meanwhile, Cadiz City police chief, Lt. Colonel Gil John Despi said a follow-up operation was conducted which later resulted in the arrest of the suspect allegedly involved in the incident.

Despi said they recovered some of Bacato’s clothes, along with the knife believed to have been used in the killing./DGB, WDJ
