The Iloilo Kisela Knights exacted their revenge on Negros Kingsmen with a thrilling 2-1 Armageddon victory in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Third Conference on Wednesday night, November 9.

After ending the blitz and rapid events with a 10.5-10.5 score, the Kisela Knights rode on veterans Rogelio Antonio, Jr. and Karl Victor Ochoa in the Armageddon to beat the Kingsmen, 2-1.

Antonio used his experience to beat Negros’ Brylle Arellano, while Ochoa dispatches Ellan Asuela. Meanwhile, Iloilo’s Rolly Parondo faltered against the Kingsmen’s David Elorta.

The Kisela Knights’ victory against the Kingsmen served as a bounce back after the Negrenses defeated the Ilonggos during their over-the-board face-off in Pasig City last September.

“We are glad that we were able to bounce back against Negros. We are really eager to beat them because they were the source of one of our losses,” Kisela Knights head coach Hubert Canto said.

“As I said, Negros is one of the toughest teams in the PCAP, they have solid veteran players. They always give us a hard time so we always really prepare hard for them,” he added.

The Kisela Knights managed to complete a perfect evening following a 16-5 domination over PECA Executives. The Ilonggos remained tied with Davao for the top spot in the Southern Division with 20-2.

Iloilo turned back PECA Executives in blitz event, 5-2, behind full points by Ochoa (Board 2), Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Antonio (Board 4), and Cesar Mariano (Board 7) and split points by Parondo (Board 1) and Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 5).

The Kisela Knights also dominated PECA Executives in the rapid game, 11-3, behind two pointers by Parondo, Ochoa, Mejia, Horizon Villanueva (Board 6), and Mariano and half point by Antonio.

On the other hand, the Kingsmen salvaged a split in their two matches following a 16.5-4.5 domination of PCL Pagadian. The Negrenses are in second place in the division with 18-4./ASC, WDJ
