Talisay, San Enrique players top Negros Open Chess Tournament

Chess players from Talisay City and San Enrique were champions of this year’s Negros Open Chess Tournament or the 2nd Governor’s Cup Chess Tournament (12-14 years old and 15-17 years old categories).

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the awarding of winners of Friday’s tournament held at the Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City, organized by the Provincial Sports Office led by EA Anthony Carlo Agustin.

The participants were from the different cities and municipalities of the province.

For the 12-14 years old category, Escalante City placed second and third, while La Carlota and San Enrique placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

For the 15-17 years old category, Silay City placed second, Escalante City bagged the third and fourth places, and Cadiz City settled in fifth place.

The tournament director for both categories was Leo Romitman.

Lacson, in his message, advised the players to enhance their skills in sports and at the same time do good in their studies.

He also advised the parents and guardians to have their children get vaccinated against COVID-19 for the safety of the whole family./WDJ
