The provincial government of Negros Occidental has finally received the “green light” from the Department of Health (DOH) to begin their pediatric vaccination program against COVID-19.
The launching of the pediatric vaccination will be held at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City today.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said the vaccination for minors will be open for ages 12 to 17 years old, and only the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines would be used.
He said the provincial government is targeting to inoculate at least 300 to 400 minors.
Meanwhile, local government units in the province have been alerted to conduct registration and submit their nomination list of vaccinees to the Provincial Health Office.
“We made representation with the DOH and we will participate in the pediatric vaccination,” Diaz said.
Following the launch, pediatric vaccination will also be held at the Cadiz District Hospital in Cadiz City and the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City.
The inoculation of minors will mainly target those under the A3 category or persons with comorbidities.
All of the city and municipal health offices in the province have already been informed of the DOH’s uniform guidelines such as requiring minors to present a medical certificate proving of their existing comorbidity./DGB, WDJ.
