The porters of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation (BREDCO) Port yesterday received food packs and hygiene kits from the city government.
These porters who work for Weesam, 2Go, Supercat, and Ocean Jet are affected by the stoppage of operations, as advised by their respective shipping lines.
According to BREDCO, the beneficiaries have stopped working since August 3.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and Councilor Renecito Novero led the distribution of food packs and hygiene kits.
The city government will also give out food packs to other workers of shipping lines who are affected by the “No Work, No Pay Policy.”
Furthermore, the mayor also requested for a list of unvaccinated porters and personnel of shipping lines so that the city can assist them to get vaccinated, considering the nature of their work.
Also joining the event were Councilor Israel Salanga, Executive Assistant Butch Soliguen, BREDCO director Willy Au, Port manager Josephine Solis, and Terminal Operations manager Lyn Cantiveros./WDJ
