A pastor was shot near his home at Sitio Tabangka, Barangay Tan-awan in Negros Occidental’s Kabankalan City early Wednesday morning.

Police identified the victim as 58-year-old Abner Navarro, a resident of the said place and pastor of Grace Baptist Church.

Based on information given by the victim’s wife Elda to Kabankalan City police, the victim and his brother-in-law noticed a flashlight pointing inside the church.

Navarro immediately went to the church to check who was shining the flashlight when he was suddenly shot by the suspects identified as 22-year-old Alias Totong Andana and 18-year-old Alias Nonoy Aldana.

Navarro’s brother-in-law, Silas Bokingkito, immediately helped the victim and rushed him to the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital for treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound to the left portion of his body.

The suspects, meanwhile, managed to escape the crime scene although they were positively identified by Bokingkito as he was able to recognize them before they fled.

Police are currently looking at robbery as a motive behind the shooting./DGB, WDJ
