But Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, Medical Officer IV of DOH-6, acknowledged that the Delta variant, which was first identified in India, is now dominant worldwide.

She said, based on the World Health Organization, there are already 98 countries penetrated by the Delta variant which include the Philippines. Several cases have already been detected in the National Capital Region.

The Delta variant appears to be more transmissible and likely to cause severe illness to patients, according to experts.

“We encourage if possible tanan mapabakuna na, we cannot control Delta variant and also ang iban nga variants nga maga abot pa gid,” said Te. (Glenda Tayona)/WDJ
