Police arrested a man for illegal possession of firearm at a checkpoint in Barangay I-B, Manapla, Negros Occidental around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 6.

An improvised pistol revolver with ammunition was recovered from 38-year-old Elmer Parreño of the town’s Barangay Purisima, a police report showed.

Parreño was on board a motorcycle when flagged down by the police to check his driver’s license. Police officers then noticed the pistol grip on his black sling bag.

Parreño was detained in the Manapla Police Station lockup cell.

He was facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./WDJ
