SM Supermalls nationwide commemorates National Flag Day today, May 28, 2021.
On this day in 1898, the Philippine Flag was first unhurled by General Emilio Aguinaldo after the Philippine Revolutionary Army declared victory against Spanish troops in the Battle at Alapan.
SM City Bacolod and 75 malls from the shopping center chain held simultaneous flag-raising ceremonies at 8:00 a.m., with the SM Security Force, mall officers, and representatives of the mall’s service agencies and affiliates.
In adhering to the prescribed health guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Form on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the events were simple but still meaningful. At the flag raising, our modern-day heroes serving unconditionally to fellow Filipinos in this pandemic were also remembered and honored.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) urges offices, business establishments, schools, homes and other institutions to display the Philippine flag from May 28 to June 12.
Every year, SM Supermalls have been engaging customers in celebrations and inspiring action, including the National Flag Day. (PR)
