The supposed vaccination of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and 37 barangay captains yesterday morning was cancelled.

Dr. Edwin Miraflor, Jr., officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO), said they cancelled the activity as they “misunderstood” the classification of local chief executives (LCEs) after Leonardia’s request was approved by the National Inter-Agency Task Force to include the LCEs in the priority list of those getting the vaccines, wherein they were classified by the Interior Department as Category A4.

Miraflor said that under their own understanding, the mayor was under the A1.4 classification for LCEs which prompted the Emergency Operations Center and Vaccination Operation Center to schedule a ceremonial vaccination in order to further boost the vaccination confidence of the city’s residents.

But after the clarification was made, they have made the decision to cancel the event.

Leonardia would have been the second LCE in Negros Occidental to receive the vaccine after Escalante City Mayor Melecio “Beboy” Yap, Jr. who got his jab last week./DGB, WDJ
