A farm laborer is currently facing jail time after he allegedly shot and killed his son during a heated argument in Barangay Cabagnaan in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatality as 25-year-old Romulo Roto, Jr., a resident of the said place.
La Castellana police investigation revealed that the victim arrived home late Sunday afternoon, January 31, intoxicated and asked his elder brother if he can borrow money.
A heated argument then ensued between the victim and his two brothers, prompting the victim to draw his bolo and tried to hack his brothers.
Their father, Romulo Roto, Sr., tried to pacify the younger Roto but he continued attacking them.
Police said Roto, Sr. then picked up his improvised rifle and shot the younger Roto in the head. Wounded, the victim picked up a piece of wood and threw it to his father.
The father then picked up the piece of wood and hit the younger Roto in the neck killing him on the spot, police added.
La Castellana police later arrived in the area and Roto, Sr. voluntarily surrendered to the authorities.
Police recovered from the crime scene a bolo measuring 28 inches long, and the suspect’s improvised rifle.
Roto, Sr., is currently detained at the La Castellana Municipal Police Station./DGB, WDJ
