Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas issued a warning against hotels and inns in the city that allow private parties and serve alcoholic drinks and drugs.
The said activities are in violation of the general guidelines for modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status of the city stipulated under Treñas’ Executive Order No. 01-2021.
The city mayor disclosed that he received reports that there are private parties in some hotel rooms in violation of protocols allowed by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
With this, Treñas warned that he will not hesitate to order the closure of any hotel that will be found violating the quarantine protocols.
“Please be sufficiently warned that I will not hesitate to order the closure of any hotel, inn or the like that allows private parties where drinking of alcoholic drinks and drugs are used by the attendees. I follow a one-strike policy…” Treñas warned.
Under the mayor’s executive order, hotel and accommodation establishments are allowed to operate at 50 percent operational capacity only.
Meanwhile, the consumption in public of any form of alcoholic beverages or any alcoholic drink containing a specific percentage of alcohol are absolutely prohibited
Also, the sale of liquor products is allowed but only until 6:00 p.m.
Treñas’ warning on the hotels came after the controversial death of flight attendant Christine Dacera, who was found dead inside a hotel room in Makati City after a party thereat.
Through a show-cause order by the Department of Tourism (DOT), the management of City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati was ordered to explain within three days why it should not be suspended for the possible violations for accepting guests for leisure purposes./WDJ
