University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to be bolstered by Bacolodnons recruits in Daniel Coo and Charity Grace Gicana, respectively, in UAAP Season 84 in late 2021.
The 6-foot-5 Coo, who previously played for the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets in high school, has formalized his commitment with the UST Growling Tigers recently.
“I am grateful for the opportunity that th
e UST Growling Tigers has given me and I am really looking forward to my future with the UST community,” Coo said in a statement to Watchmen Daily Journal.
“I am not expecting anything. I just want to play for the Growling Tigers and contribute in any way that I can,” added Coo, who also played for St. John’s Institute in Bacolod before being recruited to Blue Eaglets.
Gicana, on the other hand, is also set to join the UST’s women’s basketball team next year after her one-and-done stint with the UAAP girls basketball defending champions UST Junior Tigresses in UAAP Season 83.
“The UST coaches talked to me during the Palarong Pambansa in Antique in 2017 but I was not ready yet that time,” the 5-foot-6 Gicana said. “I am undecided that time kung saan ko gusto mag-aral for college.”
“At UST, I am expecting to grow as a person there with the help of my coaches who will guide me and give advice as well as my teammates,” added the Bacolod City National High School standout./ASC, WDJ
