Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently issued an executive order calling for local hospitals and clinics treating persons under investigation and persons under monitoring for the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, to observe strict waste management.
The order stated: “To prevent the introduction and spread of [the] coronavirus disease and other emerging  diseases, there is a need for [the] Iloilo City Government to strictly initiate and implement prevention and control measures; strict observance of waste management; and regulations including proper handling and disposal of solid, pathological, and infectious waste.”
Under the order, all waste generated by the individuals in question must be strictly segregated.
In addition, such waste must be collected, treated, and transported separately in full observance of the Department of Health and Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau guidelines./WDJ
