The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) and the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) revealed the province and city are lacking police chiefs. The towns of Bingawan, Sara, and Anilao; along with the Iloilo City’s Jaro and La Paz district, are currently without proper leadership.
“At least three na police stations na kailangan natin ang police officials at mayron pa na police chiefs na mag-schooling and mag-retire (We need police officials for at least three stations as their respective police chiefs are enrolled in further schooling or about to retire),” IPPO director, Police Colonel Paul Kenneth Lucas, explained. “Talagang kulang tayo pero hindi ‘yan hadlang para hindi tayo magtrabaho (He really are understaffed but it does not serve as a hindrance to getting work done).”
He anticipates having all positions filled at police stations across the province in the coming months.
“May mag-graduate on April na mga bata na police officers and they will be assigned here after their training so for the next two months ma -solve na natin ang problema natin (There is a new batch of graduates expected in April who will be assigned to the province and, after training, that will solve out problem),” the police official added.
Meanwhile, ICPO spokesperson, Police Captain Shella Mae Sangrines, said the Jaro Police Station is currently under officer-in-charge, Police Captain Eduardo Siacon; while Police Captain Edgar Pagot of the La Paz Police Station is on medical leave.
“We really need police officials and we are hoping, for the next months, we can look [for] police officials to handle some vacant positions,” the city police official noted.
Additionally, Iloilo City traffic chief, Police Lt. Colonel Efren Lozada, is currently holding three posts due to a lack of police officials. Aside from his primary post, he also heads the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company and serves as deputy operations director.
“It’s really hard to hold three positions, but we have no choice,” Sangrines added./WDJ
