The Basilan Steel and Davao Occidental Tigers recently opened the 2019/2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup Southern Division semifinals with wins at the Rizal Memorial College Petro Gazz Arena in Davao City. Basilan scored a 77-63 win over the Bacoor City Strikers while Davao Occidental pulled off a 47-28 victory over Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines.
Allyn Bulanadi top-scored for Basilan with 23 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block; while Hesed Gabo chipped in 13 points, six assists, three rebounds, and three turnovers.
After seeing a 12-point advantage turn into a one-point game, Bulanadi spearheaded a 23-6 scoring run, along with a three-point bomb, to push Basilan ahead, 77-59.
“I just told the boys to stay composed and continue what we were doing right, which was to put pressure on the ball,” said Basilan head coach Jerson Cabiltes.
Meanwhile, Emman Calo was the lone double-digit scorer for Davao Occidental with 12 points, along with seven rebounds; while Ilonggo small forward Billy Ray Robles contributed eight markers./ASC, WDJ
