Two people were killed late Monday night after two families engaged in a knife fight at Sitio Galera in Hinigaran Barangay Nanunga. Police identified the fatalities as 50-year-old Van Flores and 38-year-old Allan Yurag, both residents of the area.
Hinigaran Municipal Police Station chief, Police Major James Latayon, said initial investigations found the Flores and Tanagan families went on separate drinking sprees near each other’s homes; however, when Flores visited the Tanagan family, a commotion erupted resulting in his death.
The victim’s brother, Varry Flores, responded to his sibling’s shouting and saw the victim had been stabbed.
He went on to engage in a separate fight where he stabbed Allan Yurag, who is married into the Flores family.
The town police official said there had been no previous misunderstanding between the families and believes fight may have been caused by too much drinking.
Police arrested Mark Joseph Tanagan, one of the suspects in Flores’ stabbing; while another suspect, Wilfredo Tanagan, managed to escape.
Meanwhile, Varry Flores was also taken into police custody./DGB, WDJ
