The Bacolod Master Sardines scored an 83-78 victory over Valenzuela City Carga Backload Solution earlier this week in the ongoing 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League-Lakan Cup at Batangas State University.
“They played well,” said Bacolod head coach Vic Ycasiano. “They ran the plays that we’ve been practicing.”
“I’ve been telling them, we have the last four games,” he added. “We can still win the last four games-nothing to lose.”
With the score tied at 76-all with just over three minutes left in the game, Yankie Haruna pushed the Bacolod offense with a floater and two free throws, resulting in an 80-76 lead with 54 second remaining. After missed conversions from Valenzuela City, Negrense guard Edgar Charcos sealed victory in the final 45 seconds with a fast-break layup.
Charcos spearheaded Bacolod by tallying 14 points and four assists for Bacolod, while Jopher Custodio chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, and Haruna provided 11 points and eight boards.
Meanwhile, Paolo Hubalde posted 17 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals for Valenzuela City; while Jayson Varilla and Val Acuna each added 14 markers./ASC, WDJ
