Police official points out lack of signage
One person was killed, while another two were injured, after a pick-up truck struck a tricycle over the weekend in Pototan’s Barangay Cansilayan. Authorities identified the fatality as Francisco Catera of Barotac Nuevo’s Barangay Monpon, who died of a head injury.
Meanwhile, the injured, Nemesio Tabuada and his wife, Ruperta Tabuada, of Pototan’s Barangay Culob, are currently confined at St. Paul’s Hospital.
According to Pototan municipal police chief, Police Major Ronnie Brillo, the three were aboard a tricycle being operated by Nemesio Tabuada, when they were struck by a pick-up truck being driven by Bartolome Aricaya.
“The pick-up was about to overtake but he did not notice that the tricycle signalled to turn left, thus he bumped the tricycle,” explained the police official.
Aricaya, who faces vehicular manslaughter and frustrated murder charges, was detained in Pototan Police Station.
Meanwhile, Brillo noted the volume of vehicular accidents in the area and pointed to a lack of signage.
“Among the reasons why we have so many vehicular accidents [is] because of [a] lack of signage [along] some roads that are now under construction,” the local police chief pointed out.
He also blamed “careless driving” for a share of the accidents./WDJ
