Alab Pilipinas fires up anew after frustrating OJ Mayo

San Miguel Alab Pilipinas has wasted no time getting back on track in the 2019-2020 Asean Basketball League as they got the better of OJ Mayo-led Fubon, 101-96, Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

World imports Sam Deguara, Nick King, and Khalif Wyatt all played big, but the Filipinos also welcomed with open arms a big boost from Jeremiah Gray who scored 17 points on top of six assists and five rebounds all while going all-out on defense against Mayo.

The eight-year NBA veteran still had 35 points, but had to shoot 22 times from the field to get all those.

Two of his triple tries in the last minute were also tipped by Gray, sealing the deal in the Philippines’ return to the win column now at 5-2.

Aside from his defense, the Filipino-American also hit the big-time triple that increased the home team’s three-point edge into a 99-94 lead with 56.5 ticks to go on the clock.

Of course, the Braves kept coming behind Mayo, but Wyatt finished them off once and for all with a couple of charities.

Wyatt wound up with 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists while King also added 22 markers, six boards, and five dimes of his own.

Deguara then posted a 26-point, 14-rebound double-double as Alab seized solo second in the standings.

The Filipinos are out to start another streak when they travel to Singapore on Sunday to take on the Slingers.
