A police officer was wounded after he was shot by a fellow officer late Wednesday night at Purok Paghiliusa in Sagay City’s Barangay Fabrica. Police identified the wounded as Patrolman Axel Lago, a resident of the city’s Barangay Taba-ao.
Based on information provided by Sagay City police, the suspect, Police Corporal Elver dela Cruz, invited Lago for drinks. A few hours later, while both the suspect and victim were inebriated, a heated argument ensued between the two, resulting in dela Cruz shooting Lago.
The victim was immediately rushed to the city’s Lopez District Farmers’ Hospital for treatment and later to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.
Dela Cruz, meanwhile, was arrested following the incident and is detained at the Sagay City Police Station.
Police recovered the assailant’s 9mm service firearm that was used in the shooting./DGB, WDJ
